Miami Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich has signed a seven-year contract extension reportedly worth a bumper $49.5 million.
The Marlins have a club option for an eighth year for 2022 season with the first-round draft pick from five years ago.
They have now tied down up two-thirds of their outfield through 2021 and the deal comes on the heels of the Marlins inking of another young outfielder after Giancarlo Stanton signed a 13-year deal worth $325 million in November.
The 23-year-old Yelich hit .284 last year in his first full major league season. He had nine homers and 54 RBIs and also won a Gold Glove.
He is the latest homegrown product Miami have secured for the future.
The Marlins' also included signing 41-year-old former Mariner and Yankee outfielder Ichiro Suzuki in the offseason.
Outfielder Marcell Ozuna slugged 23 home runs last year in his first full season in the big leagues.
Miami open their campaign on April 6 at home to Atlanta.
