Philadelphia 76ers entered the history books on Friday after a 116-114 loss to the Houston Rockets ensured a 27th straight defeat.
While the Golden State Warriors have set a new record winning streak for a season start (17-0), the 76ers miserable form has ensured record breaking headlines for the wrong reasons.
Defeat to Houston means Philadelphia have started the season with 17 straights defeats and couple with the 10 they suffered consecutively at the end of last season it means they now hold the record for the longest losing streak in North American major professional sports.
With those consecutive losses, stretching over two seasons and dating back to March 25, 2015, Philadelphia have set a new mark, going past the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers who lost 26 in row from 1976-77. They went 0-14 in their first season in 1976 and started 0-12 in 1977 before beating New Orleans.
The Sixers also equalled their franchise-worst 0-17 start from last season as a result - one loss away from matching the New Jersey Nets' NBA-worst mark of 18 losses to open a season.
Philadelphia fought hard in the final quarter, but James Harden scored a season-high 50 points for the Rockets to ensure another loss for the Sixers.
