Chicago Bulls guard Denzel Valentine has had ankle surgery which will force him to miss the rest of the season.

Valentine has not played this year after picking up the injury during pre-season practice on September 25.

The 25-year-old was initially diagnosed with a moderate sprain but has now had to have surgery to stabilise his ankle.

Bulls say he is expected "to return to full basketball activities" in about six months.
