Team Sky have confirmed the appointment of Australian Brett Lancaster as a sports director, in a move that sees him retire from the peloton.
The 36-year-old, who won a team pursuit Olympic gold medal in 2004, brought an end to his competitive career to make the transition to the technical team.
Lancaster ended his riding career with a four-year stint at the Australian Orica-GreenEDGE team.
He said of his move to Team Sky, where he becomes a sixth sports director within the organisation: "I'm very excited. It's a big move and I think you have to adapt from being a professional cyclist to being a sports director.
"There's a lot to take on board and it's been pretty intense, but I'm over the moon."
