Alex Dowsett keen to fulfil potential in UCI Hour Record bid

Alex Dowsett hopes to show what he is “truly capable of” when he bids to break Sir Bradley Wiggins’ UCI Hour Record next year.
Dowsett set the record in May 2015 with a distance of 52.937km but lost it a month later when Wiggins travelled 54.526km.
Having ended his first attempt with energy left over, Dowsett wants to empty himself in his second try and believes he has the power to put Wiggins' mark under serious threat.
Speaking at the Action Medical Research Champions of Cyclesport dinner on Thursday, he said: "The last attempt was a lot more comfortable than we were expecting it to be.
"We were expecting between 400 and 420 watts. During the attempt, you are not allowed to see your Garmin [power meter], so you can't see what you are doing and you just stick to the lap times.
"In the end, I only had to do 358 to get my distance. It was frustrating because I know there is more in me. It's frustrating to work that hard for something and not show what you are actually truly capable of."
Wiggins set the existing record in London's Lee Valley VeloPark, but Dowsett will make his attempt at Manchester's National Cycling Centre.
He is currently working with his Movistar team to finalise a date.
Dowsett added: "Manchester is about 10 watts quicker than London. We are still working on a date, but the intent is there."
