Danilo Di Luca tightened his grip on the race leader's pink jersey with victory in the 10th stage of the Giro d'Italia on Tuesday. Italy's 2007 champion attacked on the descent of the Pra Martino climb between Cuneo and Pinerolo and simply could not be caught. His win in the 262km stage was timed at a little over six and a half hours, with Franco Pellizotti of Liquigas taking second. Two-time Tour of Spain winner Denis Menchov finished third and reigning Tour de France champion Carlos Sastre came in fourth. Ivan Basso, Levi Leipheimer and Michael Rogers, who along with Menchov and Sastre are considered contenders for overall victory, finished 29sec back in the company of Lance Armstrong.
