Russell Downing claimed the second stage on a busy final day at the Criterium International, which was won by Pierrick Fedrigo. Team Sky rider Downing came home first in a sprint finish at the end of the 75km ride around the town of Porto Vecchio on the island of Corsica. The 31-year-old was superbly set up by his team-mates to pip HTC-Columbia's Michael Albasini on the line. The winner of Saturday's first stage, Pierrick Fedrigo, secured third place to extend his overall lead going into the time-trial in the afternoon.

Slender advantage

The Frenchman finished 17th over the 7.7km course to maintain his slender advantage, as he ended up 14 seconds clear of Australian Michael Rogers. "I'm 31 but I still don't know my limits, I still surprise myself," said Bbox-Bouygues rider Fedrigo. David Millar clinched a second win on Sunday for Britain, the Garmin rider clocking a time of nine minutes and 49 seconds over the technical time-trial course to see off Alberto Contador. Reigning Tour de France champion Contador finished the event, which was being staged for the first time in its history in Corsica, in 15th position. Team RadioShack's Lance Armstrong ended up in 47th in the general classification, the American managing 15th place in the time-trial.
