First-ever time trial medal for Great Britain
Great Britain's Emma Pooley rewrote the record books when winning the women's time trial at the 2010 UCI Road World Championships in Geelong, Australia.
Her gold medal is the first medal of any kind a British woman has won in the event - and she claimed it with a stunning ride on the 22.9 kilometre circuit.
She was marginally ahead at the first time check but extended her advantage the further she went; eventually powering across the line in 32 minutes 48.44 seconds, which at the time was a staggering 43.94 seconds faster than anyone else.
And by the end of the day she remained the only woman to go under 33 minutes, with Germany's Judith Arndt 15.17 seconds back in the silver medal position, just ahead of Linda Melanie Villumsen of New Zealand.
The victory continued a superb run of form for Pooley, a silver medallist in the time trial at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, who has won both the national road race and time trial titles this season as well as landing the GP de Plouay-Bretagne in France recently.
"It's fantastic, I can't quite believe it," Pooley said afterwards. "I'm really happy - the training had been going well and I guess it all went right on the day. All you can do is ride your fastest and not worry about the other competitors."
It was the perfect start to the week for Great Britain who also have a powerful line-up in the women's road race on Saturday and Pooley added: "We've got a really strong team for that and we'll work out the best tactics for the race between now and then.
"The good thing about our team is we have lots of people that are strong, and I think we have a really good chance - not necessarily me, I think Lizzie [Armitstead], Sharon [Laws], and Nicole [Cooke] are going really well at the moment."
