Meares wins repechage

Victoria Pendleton failed in her bid to qualify for the women's Keirin final at the Track Cycling World Championships in Holland. After relinquishing her grip on the sprint title last night, finishing with bronze, Pendleton was seeking to reclaim the Keirin crown she last won in 2007. After requiring the repechage to progress to the second round, the 30-year-old finished fourth with only three riders progressing. Australia's Anna Meares, the sprint champion on Saturday night, won the heat, Cuba's Lisandra Guerra Rodriguez was second and Malaysia's Mustapa Fatehah third. Pendleton will now contest the race for seventh place as Britain's hopes of a ninth medal from the 10 Olympic events came to a close.
