Great Britain took gold in the elite men's and women's downhill competitions on the final day of the 2014 Mountain Bike World Championships in Hafjell, Norway.

Gee Atherton won the men's event, with compatriot Josh Bryceland managing to finish second despite breaking his foot during his run.

Earlier, there was a clean sweep of the podium positions for Britain in the women's competition as 2014 World Cup champion Manon Carpenter came home first ahead of defending champion Rachel Atherton and third-placed Tahnee Seagrave.

Gee Atherton told Cycling News: "It's an incredible feeling to be back in the rainbow stripes.

"2008 was a long time ago. It's been a while, but winning the world champs is never something you stop wanting, and I never stopped working toward it."

Carpenter said: "I didn't expect it to be honest. I struggled to go fast enough all week.

"I wanted to have a perfect run. It was close, but I had almost resigned myself to coming second and then I finished and won the world championships."
