Great Britain will field a strong team on their return to the Lee Valley VeloPark for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in London on December 5-7.
The British team performed well in the first round of the World Cup in Mexico with two gold and two silver medals to finish second in the medal table behind Australia.
They will now be looking for more success at the Lee Valley VeloPark, the venue for the track cycling at London 2012, with Phil Hindes, Jason Kenny, Steve Burke, Ed Clancy, Joanna Rowsell and Laura Trott all set to return to the venue where they were crowned Olympic champions.
Technical director Shane Sutton said: “We set ourselves in good stead at the Mexico round of the World Cup with some solid performances across the board and we’re entering a similar strength team in London with the aim of continuing the momentum and gaining valuable Olympic qualification points early on.
“The home round of the World Cup series is a competition the whole team looks forward to and the fact that this event is taking place in the Lee Valley VeloPark makes this event extra special for us.
Phenomenal
“The crowd support during London 2012 was phenomenal and gave the team a huge lift so hopefully the public will get behind us once again and support us on our journey to Rio.”
Sir Bradley Wiggins plans to target the team pursuit on the track at the 2016 Rio Games and he suggested earlier in the year that he would compete at the London World Cup, but the four-time Olympic champion does not feature in the team.
