Rohan Dennis to attack hour record at Swiss national velodrome on February 8

Australian time-trial specialist Rohan Dennis will attempt to break the hour record at the Swiss national velodrome in Grenchen on February 8.

The BMC Racing rider is the third man to announce an attack on the prestigious record following changes to rules governing permitted equipment in May this year.

Veteran German Jens Voigt broke Ondrej Sosenka's nine-year-old mark in September with a distance of 51.110km, but that was beaten the following month by Austria's Matthias Brandle, who set a new benchmark of 51.852km.

Dennis’s compatriot Jack Bobridge is expected to announce a record attempt in the next few days, while Sir Bradley Wiggins is among a clutch of other riders also rumoured to be interested.

British Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey revealed on Tuesday that she would be the first rider to attempt the women's record since the rule changes.
