Dr Juan Jaume Mercadel
A Spaniard in Lincolnshire - Juan Jaume Mercadel spent five years in the UK completing his GP training as he began his career as a doctor.
Once back in Spain he underwent A&E training, and now holds an Accident and Emergency position in "a beautiful spot" in Mallorca. Working in a community hospital in Palma, Juan is also a primary care physician, dovetailing his work with Team Sky.
Juan got his big break in cycling thanks to the Spanish Federation, where he was in charge of Spain's track team for six years, working at the World Cups and major races. That brought him to the attention of Team Sky, and after leaving the Spanish track set-up he worked with the team in 2015 at the Mallorca Challenge, plus the Tours of Slovenia and Denmark.
Now upping his role to around 80 days with the team, Juan is thrilled to be a member of Team Sky. "It's challenging but I'm very motivated," he admits. "Everything is so impressive. I've never seen such a well-organised and structured team. Everybody knows their role and does it with 100 percent. It's overwhelming, and to have the chance to be involved with this team is a gift."
While he grew up with a love of riding his bike, it was at university where Juan took on a new passion for running. Despite playing down his own achievements, he holds a best 10km time of 31:30, and a best half marathon milestone of 1h 11. Above all Juan says the most important thing to him is his family.
