Team Sky and Frog Bikes have celebrated the work of young people in the cycling community by inviting four mascots to join the team at the Tour of Britain.
Cycling clubs local to four of the race's stages, in Glasgow, Carlisle, Denbigh and Exeter, nominated a member to become a mascot for the day and, as well as meeting the team and touring the Team Sky bus, each mascot will receive a new Frog Bike and Frog accessories, plus a Team Sky goody bag.
The selected mascots are:
Ines Morrice - Glasgow Riderz, Glasgow
Grace Harris - Border City Wheelers, Carlisle
Layla Bradbrook - Veloclub Melyd, Denbigh
Zack Lott - Exeter Wheelers, Exeter
We are also excited to announce we will be selecting an additional four Mascots to meet the team at the Tour of Britain. The young fan we see showing the best Team Sky banner and support will be able to meet the team at the start of stage 3 (Congleton), stage 5 (Aberdare), stage 7 (Bristol) and stage 8 (London).
Ines, 8
Ines was delighted to hear she would be a Team Sky mascot, but will selflessly be donating her new Frog Bike to her club.
She said: "I will donate the Frog Bike to the club as I have a road/cross bike and a mountain bike and I would like the club to benefit from this opportunity.
"Even though some of my sessions or races are really cold or wet or windy, my coach says I am always smiling and trying my hardest."
Grace, 8
Grace, from Carlisle, was put forward by the Border City Wheelers for her willingness to help others. The club explained: "If Grace sees someone fall and injure themselves, once she knows they are OK, she will tell them 'You're not a proper cyclist until you've fallen off!'"
Grace (pictured) said: "During Go Ride I help sign on, help with equipment and handing out the sweets. I look after the little ones, and show new people where to go. I have learnt to ride in my cleats this year and I'm looking forward to my first velodrome session later in the year."
Layla, 9
Layla was nominated by her club for her 'fantastic and tenacious attitude' towards cycling, exemplified by the fact she's at every Thursday night Go Ride coaching session, come rain or shine.
Layla said: "I have tried extremely hard and attended nearly every session, I have been polite and helped out at the Go Ride sessions. I have made new friends and this makes racing fun. I always try my best when I'm racing which I really love."
Zack, 10
Zack travelled from the south coast to watch the Tour de Yorkshire earlier in the season and is one of the most committed members in his club.
He said: "I wanted to start doing some races so I saved my pocket money to show my dedication to becoming a great cyclist, and with my Mum's help we bought my first road bike.
"I did my first race and even though I came last I did not give up and kept going until I finished the race. Since the race I have been practicing riding my bike around our local Quay to gain confidence."
