Ashes battle looms on Sunday afternoon
Team Sky duo Peter Kennaugh and Geraint Thomas will race for gold in the final of the team pursuit at the London Track World Cup on Sunday.
The pair were part of the Great Britain team which qualified second fastest behind arch rivals Australia as the four-day event got under way at the Olympic Velodrome on Thursday night.
Along with Ed Clancy and Steven Burke they clocked 3mins 58.466secs in the 4km discipline, behind their rivals' 3:57.885.
Britain were the 13th of 18 teams to ride in qualifying and had to wait for their final place to be secured, with New Zealand and Belgium reaching the bronze medal ride-off.
Thomas rode to gold in Beijing in 2008 and believes Britain are capable of more.
He said: "We did a decent ride. We're a bit disappointed with the time, but we're always striving for more.
"We've got plenty of time now to iron out those factors we can improve on."
Both men were massively impressed by the atmosphere and support within the Olympic velodrome, Thomas adding: "It's a lovely track and it's great to be riding here in front of a home crowd like tonight's."
Kennaugh agreed, saying: "What an amazing atmosphere. It spurs you on because you don't want to let anyone down. The buzz you get from it is incredible."
Looking ahead to Sunday and beyond, Kennaugh said: "There's loads more to come from us. I haven't even done a road race yet this year. We'll be much quicker on Sunday I'm sure."
