Tour de France: London, Manchester and Scotland bid for 2017 start

Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme has revealed he has received three bids from British candidates to host the Grand Depart in 2017.

On the eve of the 102nd edition, which starts in the Dutch city of Utrecht, Prudhomme said London, Manchester and Scotland are among the contenders. Prudhomme did not specify which Scottish city applied.

The 2016 Tour will start at Mont-Saint-Michel, the island tourist attraction, but the race could start abroad for the 22nd time in 2017.

London hosted the 2007 Grand Depart and the British capital staged the finish of the third stage of the 2014 Tour, which began in Yorkshire.
