Steve Cummings and Lizzie Deignan were the big winners at the British National Championships on the Isle of Man.

Cummings came home with both major titles, winning the time-trial on Thursday and then emulating David Millar's 2007 double by following that up in Sunday's road race.

The Team Dimension Data rider went on a solo attack with 10km to go and stormed clear of the rest of the breakaway, winning by 40 seconds from Chris Lawless and Ian Bibby.

Only 12 riders completed the four-and-a-half hour race with home hero Mark Cavendish among those not to finish as he continues his battle to be fit for the Tour de France.

"It was a really tough race. That style of competition is what you miss when you haven't been racing, it was punchy and explosive," Cummings said.

"It's nice to be back doing what I do and I'm looking forward to whatever is next. It'll be nice to be at the Tour de France and to get stuck in."

Claire Rose won the women's time-trial on Thursday after Elinor Barker suffered a late puncture to thwart her bid for glory.

And it was Deignan celebrating a national road race title for the fourth time on Sunday when she broke clear of Katie Archibald and Hannah Barnes to win by 14 seconds - Barker finished fourth.

"It's one of the hardest national championships I've ever won," said Deignan. "I'm very proud of the fact that we have so many women now who are capable of competing internationally as well as domestically."
