Seven-time Tour de France champion to return to action in Australia
Tour Down Under chiefs have confirmed that Lance Armstrong will make his return to competitive racing in Australia.
Armstrong had announced at the start of September that he would be coming out of retirement in a bid to lift an eighth Tour de France title - and
indicated that he would head to the Tour Down Under.
The 37-year-old, who has been retired three years, has now confirmed he will take part in the six-stage event, which is the first competition of the world pro cycling calendar.
The race, which will run from January 20-25, is centred around the South Australia state capital of Adelaide.
Tour Down Under race director Mike Turtur told
The Associated Press: "The confirmation just came through that he will starting in our race in January.
"It's great news for Adelaide and the Tour Down Under. We're all looking forward to the comeback of the greatest cyclist that ever raced the Tour de France. He is a superstar in the same category as Tiger Woods."
