Team Sky made a perfect start to 2010 as Greg Henderson and Chris Sutton gave them a one-two on their competitive debut.

Sprint duo power clear in Adelaide curtain-raiser

Team Sky made a dream start to 2010 as Greg Henderson and Chris Sutton made it a one-two in the Cancer Council Helpline Classic in Adelaide. The race marked the team's competitive debut and it could hardly have gone better. The lead-out worked to perfection as Team Sky came to the head of affairs with a lap to go and Henderson powered to the front when it mattered, with Sutton shadowing him all the way to the line. There was a gap back to HTC-Columbia's André Greipel in third, who was just ahead of Team Katusha's Robbie McEwen. "It's fantastic, to get a victory in our very first race together is incredible - it's unheard of," a delighted Henderson said soon after crossing the line. "We'd talked about it beforehand - the best way for Team Sky to start would be by winning the race and to achieve that is unbelievable.

"I looked around with a couple of laps to go and the guys were all there for me. "We all formed together with about two, two and a half laps to go, and I was on the back and I just yelled 'yes' as loud as I could and it went down the line - 'yes, yes, yes'. "It was just like we'd practiced in training and when the boys lit it up it was just so fast." Henderson revealed he barely had an anxious moment from that point onwards, adding: "They tried to charge us down the back straight but we just had too much horsepower. "Mat Goss (HTC-Colombia) actually snuck in the middle there but it ended up helping us. CJ then came off him and then I was there at the end to finish it off." The team spirit that has been so evident all week in Adelaide was also something Henderson was keen to credit, adding: "We've gelled so quickly, we're just like brothers and will do anything for each other." The victory underlined Henderson's position as one of the favourites for the Tour Down Under proper and that's very much the next target as he added: "The main goal is the overall classification but we'll just take it one day at a time. This is the perfect start though and all credit to the guys."
