Australian surges into third with back-to-back wins

Liquigas rider Peter Sagan claimed his second consecutive stage win at the Tour of California to move into third in the overall rankings. The Australian had won the fifth stage after emerging victorious from a sprint finish and he followed that up with another win, this time from an uphill sprint ahead of Rory Sutherland and Michael Rogers (HTC-Columbia). The 20-year-old edged victory ahead of a group of just over two dozen riders who endured a mountainous 135.3-mile leg from Palmdale to Big Bear Lake, which included more than 12,000 feet of climbing. Sagan moved past Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack) into third place behind leader Rogers and Dave Zabriskie (Garmin-Transitions). The race concludes on Sunday in the western Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks.
