GAA Congress has voted down a motion from Donegal which proposed that no county could use Croke Park as a home venue in the Super 8s.

It was comprehensively defeated, with just 36 per cent voting in favour.

Last summer, Dublin used Croke Park as both a home and neutral venue in the Super 8s, playing games against Donegal and Roscommon at the Jones' Road venue.

However, Donegal brought a motion to Congress in Wexford this weekend arguing that no county should be able to call Croke Park a 'home' venue.

The issue of Dublin's advantage while playing at HQ has been a contentious one for several years, with many pointing to the fact that the experience gained by playing their home league games at the stadium means they are more used to the central venue than any other county.

If the motion passed, Dublin would have been likely to play home Super 8s games at Parnell Park, with demand for tickets greatly outnumbering supply.

Meanwhile, the other significant development at Congress was the decision to lift the ban on county grounds hosting sports other than hurling and football, with it now being permitted in 'exceptional circumstances'.
