GAA round-up: Cavan draw with Armagh, Kildare progress as Dublin hurlers triumph
Sunday 2 June 2019 19:42, UK
A round-up of Sunday's GAA championship action, as Cavan and Armagh finished level after extra-time.
Cavan 0-17 Armagh 1-14, Ulster Football Championship
Over 90 minutes of football couldn't separate the Breffni and Orchard counties in Clones, as they finished level after extra-time.
It was tit-for-tat throughout the first half, as they went in level at the break at 0-7 apiece. A goal from Jarlath Óg Burns then looked like it would separate the sides as the clock ticked on and Armagh opened up a four-point lead.
However, Mickey Graham's charges hung in there, and the introduction of the experienced Cian Mackey helped them level it up at full-time.
The sides could only conjure up a point each in the 20 minutes of extra-time, and they will meet again next Sunday for the replay.
Kildare 1-18 Longford 0-10, Leinster Football Championship
A much-improved Kildare side saw off Longford at the second time of asking, securing an 11-point win in the Leinster quarter-final replay at O'Connor Park, Tullamore.
Fergal Conway's early goal set Cian O'Neill's side on their way, as Neil Flynn kicked five points in what was ultimately a comfortable victory.
The Lilywhites will now face Dublin in next Sunday's Leinster semi-final. It is the first time they will meet the All-Ireland champions since the 2017 provincial decider, a game in which Kildare lost by nine points.
Longford now enter the qualifiers, where they will take on Carlow in round one.
Carlow 1-13 Dublin 2-22, Leinster Hurling Championship
Mattie Kenny picked up his first championship win as Dublin manager as the Sky Blues dug out a comprehensive victory over Carlow.
Two first-half goals from Eamonn Dillon proved crucial, and although Shane Barrett was shown a straight red card before half-time, the Dubs led by eight points at the break.
From there, they kicked on. Ballyboden duo Paul Ryan and Conal Keaney hit 0-9 and 0-4 respectively en route to the 12-point win.
Dublin are now well-placed in the Leinster Championship table, and know a win over Galway in the final game will likely see them through.
Meanwhile, this result means that Carlow must beat Wexford, and hope other results go their way if they are to avoid relegation.
Sky Sports' live GAA coverage continues on Saturday, June 8 as Cork host Waterford in the Munster Hurling Championship.
