Alan Cadogan's first goal in championship hurling proved crucial as Cork defeated Dublin 1-26 to 1-23 in Páirc Uí Rinn in Round 1 of the All Ireland SHC Qualifiers.
Dublin played the entire second half with 14 men after Chris Crummey's 30th minute dismissal and they pushed Cork right to the end but the hosts did enough to keep their season alive.
Cork won the toss and elected to play with the wind in the first half. Luke O'Farrell got them off the mark on four minutes before Patrick Horgan opened his account with a seventh minute free from well inside his own half.
Chris Bennett was a late inclusion to the Dublin team and he got the visitors' first point on eight minutes after some good work by Shane Barrett.
Horgan clipped over another free a minute later after O'Farrell was fouled by Liam Rushe. Dublin then hit four unanswered points with David Treacy (three) and Paul Ryan finding their range to put Dublin 0-5 to 0-3 with 14 minutes played.
Cork's shooting from distance was wayward but they got great dividend when they played the ball into Alan Cadogan in the full forward line. He scored three good points in the first half but his goal in the 25th minute was the standout moment of the opening half.
The impressive O'Farrell gave Barrett the slip before delivering it long into Cadogan who slotted the ball through Gary Maguire's legs in the Dublin goal. This goal put Cork 1-6 to 0-7 up.
Ryan and Horgan exchanged pointed frees before Crummey scored a great point from the right-hand touchline on 29 minutes.
Less than a minute later though, Crummey was shown a yellow card for the second time in the match meaning Dublin were down to 14 men five minutes before the break.
With the numerical advantage, Cork finished the half well to lead 1-10 to 0-11 at the interval.
After the break, Niall McMorrow and Horgan exchanged two scores each to make it 1-12 to 0-13 after 39 minutes.
Dublin had a brilliant goal chance on 41 minutes as David Treacy's sideline delivery was caught by Mark Schutte. But Cork had goalkeeper Anthony Nash to thank as the Kanturk man denied Schutte's powerful shot.
Nash's opposite number, Gary Maguire, made a good save of his own three minutes later as he managed to flick Conor Lehane's powerful shot over the crossbar for a point.
Treacy scored two points in the space of a minute for Dublin before Eamon Dillon's 52nd minute goal put the Leinster side a point ahead.
Bennett raced up the left side and his handpass found Dillon who rifled past Nash from a tight angle.
But Cork responded immediately with substitute Daniel Kearney, Cadogan and Horgan cancelling out Dillon's goal within two minutes.
Cork's substitutions made a big difference as Kearney and Brian Lawton helped themselves to points with Conor O'Sullivan playing as the spare man in defence mopping up any loose ball in the Cork half.
Kearney's point on the hour mark put Cork four points to the good as they looked to pull away.
But 14-man Dublin knocked over four unanswered points through Barrett (two) and Treacy (two) to level the game in the 66th minute.
But points from Bill Cooper, Lehane, Cadogan and Horgan - who finished with 12 points - saw Cork through to Round 2 of the qualifiers.
