Patrick Maroon: Netted twice for the Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks clinched the Pacific Division title for the third time in their history with a 5-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Patrick Maroon struck twice in the second period as the Ducks fought back from a goal down to claim a victory that not only sees them clinch the Pacific title but moves them ahead of the St Louis Blues as the top seeds in the Western Conference.

The victory also saw them set a franchise record of 112 points for the season, beating the tally set by the 2007 Stanley Cup-winning side.

In Pittsburgh, the visiting Detroit Red Wings sealed a spot in the play-offs for the 23rd consecutive time despite losing to the Penguins.

Red Wings forward Riley Sheahan tied the scores with just over a minute left in the third period to force the game to a shoot-out and ultimately earn his side a play-off spot. The Penguins went on to clinch the victory 4-3 thanks to Jussi Jokinen's deciding score.

The Columbus Blue Jackets were also celebrating a play-off spot - only their second ever - after beating the Dallas Stars 3-1.

In the two other matches, Patrick Sharp's overtime winner earned defending Stanley Cup champions the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens 3-2, while the Calgary Flames beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in a shoot-out after seeing a 3-0 lead wiped out in regulation time.
