The Florida Panthers won their third straight match in Canada, beating Edmonton Oilers 4-2.
The three-match winning run came in four nights, beginning Thursday in Vancounver and continuing through Calgary on Friday before culminating with Sunday’s win in Edmonton.
Roberto Luongo, the Panthers’ goaltender, was the star of the evening. He made 31 saves en route to preserving his side’s fortune north of the border.
Jimmy Hayes opened the scoring for Florida and Brian Campbell scored their second with a 50-foot shot. Tomas Kopecky and Sean Bergenheim completed the scoring for the Panthers.
Sami Vatanen secured a 5-4 victory for the Anaheim Ducks against the Winnipeg Jets in the sixth round of a shoot-out.
The Ducks had rallied from a two-goal deficit with Rickard Rakell equalising with just 2:03 left on the clock.
Mark Scheifele and Andrew Ladd scored for the Jets before Kyle Palmieri and Tim Jackman registered for the Ducks.
Blake Wheeler and Evander Kane netted early shoot-out strikes for the Jets but the Ducks were able to roar back due to Ryan Kesler and Rakell’s late equaliser.
The stage was set for Vatanen’s winner on the night that fellow Finn Teemu Selanne was honoured by his former team.
Minnesota Wild slipped to a fifth straight loss after losing 4-1 to Chicago Blackhawks.
Marian Hossa and Bryan Bickell put the Blackhawks two ahead inside eight minutes before Brad Richards and Johnny Oduya made it four. Matt Cooke replied for the Wild.
