Saturday 31 January 2015 07:34, UK
Simon Despres scored with 2:39 left in overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins came from behind to defeat the New Jersey Devils 2-1.
It was just the second win in seven games for the Penguins (28-13-8), who snapped a five-game losing streak to the Devils in Newark.
Right winger Patrick Kane led the way for Chicago with two goals and an assist as the Blackhawks dominated the league-leading Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on the road.
Center Jonathan Toews and defenseman Duncan Keith also scored, while left winger Patrick Sharp assisted on all four Chicago goals.
Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored the decisive goal in a shootout for the second night running as the St Louis Blues defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2.
Shattenkirk was the only player to score in the shootout as the Blues escaped after squandering a two-goal lead, notching their fourth straight victory, while the Hurricanes fell short of matching a season-best, four-game winning streak.
Goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 23 shots for his fourth shutout of the season as the surging Colorado Avalanche beat the Nashville Predators 3-0.
After a poor start to the season, the Avalanche (21-18-11) have rallied to challenge for the last wild-card spot, and are only two points behind Calgary for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
Nashville (31-11-6) have lost four of five after a five-game winning run.
Defenseman Yannick Weber and center Nick Bonino scored second-period power-play goals as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-2.
Vancouver snapped a three-game home losing streak, while the Sabres lost their 14th consecutive game, three short of the NHL record.
