Scot secures 25th pole of his IndyCar career

Dario Franchitti has claimed pole position for Sunday's Milwaukee 225 IndyCar race at the Milwaukee Mile. The Scot secured the 25th pole of his career after lapping the mile-long oval track at an average speed of 170.841mph in his Target Chip Ganassi Racing car. Team Penske's Helio Castroneves qualified second fastest at 169.999 mph, with Franchitti's team-mate Scott Dixon lining up on the inside of row two ahead of KV Racing's Tony Kanaan. However, series leader Will Power, who had set the pace during practice, will line up down in 17th place after making an error in turn three on his flying lap. "The Target car was great today," Franchitti said. "It was a combination of the car and the setup was really close to being perfect and I just hung on to it. "There was lot of oversteer in turn three but the upside to that was it was good everywhere else." Power said: "We were flat through turns one and two but we had a big moment there in turn three when we got loose that cost us. "It's certainly not where wanted to start the race, but we know we have a good race car and we'll put our heads down and try to make up ground tomorrow." The session brought another crash for Simona De Silvestro, who was taken to hospital after spinning her car and slamming the wall hard. An IndyCar series spokesperson said that she was awake and alert, however. Last month, De Silvestro burned her hands in a practice crash at the Indianapolis 500 before going on to race with her hands bandaged. Starting grid 1. (10) Dario Franchitti, Dallara-Honda, 170.841
