Championship leader fastest going into title decider

Matt Neal boosted his hopes of claiming the British Touring Car Championship title by earning pole for Sunday's three races. Honda Racing driver Neal, who leads reigning champion Jason Plato and team-mate Gordon Shedden by five points in the overall standings, broke the previous qualifying lap record to set a time of 59.131 seconds. Neal is looking to seal his third championship crown after previously claiming the title in 2005 and 2006. Mat Jackson qualified in second place on the grid in his Airwaves Racing Ford Focus, missing out on pole by just 0.035secs.

Battling

Neal's team-mate Shedden was third fastest and James Nash finished fourth quickest despite battling a dose of flu. Plato qualified seventh in his Chevrolet behind team-mate Alex MacDowall in fifth and and Tom Chilton in his Ford Focus in sixth. Five drivers - Neal, Plato, Shedden, Jackson and Nash - can all win the championship in the final round, with Jackson and Nash also battling it out for the Independents Trophy. Only 44 points separate the top five drivers going into the final round.
