Sentul success for Canada

Canada's Sean McIntosh came from the back of the grid to win the feature race in Indonesia.

Canada's Sean McIntosh claimed an unlikely victory in the feature race at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old came from the back of the grid to win at the Sentul circuit in front of 32,000 fans after managing to complete just one lap in the sprint race.

Malaysia's ex-F1 driver Alex Yoong claimed second, just in front of Marcus Marshall of Australia, as the big names failed to get on the podium.

France had claimed pole after victory in the sprint race but Nicolas Lapierre made a terrible start and allowed Robbie Kerr, who had been fastest in Saturday's qualifying, to sneak into the lead.

However, the British driver's hopes of pushing well clear of the rest of the field were short-lived as the safety car was forced to come out on to the track twice in the opening three laps.

France were forced to come into the pits to fit a new front wing after coming into contact with Malaysia's car and Lapierre was unable to force his way back into contention.

Kerr led the race up until they came into the pits on lap 30 and 44.5-second stop meant he returned to the action way down the field.

That blew the race wide open and McIntosh, who had to deal with a drive-through penalty for crossing the line at the pit exit, took control in lap 33.

The Canadian managed to push clear in the final three laps as nearest rival South Africa was forced into the pits.

"In the feature race, you really don't have anything to lose," said McIntosh. "The main difference is just how much you risk."

Despite finishing back in eighth in the feature race, France remain on top of the Championship standings and they hold a 28-point advantage over Switzerland.

Brazil's fourth-placed finish means they go above Britain into third.
