Saturday's Grand Prix of Poland was stopped at the halfway point, after officials and riders agreed that the track was not safe to continue racing on.
With a full house of 53,000 spectators inside Warsaw’s National Stadium, only 12 heats were completed before organisers called a halt to the meeting, which opened the 2015 World Championship season, on grounds of safety.
However, the result was allowed to stand with Slovenian Matej Zagar deemed the winner on the night and he now leads the Grand Prix standings going into the second round in Finland on May 16.
Britain’s Chris Harris was second, while Poland’s Jaroslaw Hampel finished third in his home event.
Hampel was unperturbed that the meeting was curtailed saying: “I can only thank the fans for coming. It was a full stadium and the crowd was amazing all night. It’s a great feeling when it’s so noisy in the stadium."
