Factory Honda clean sweep in Malaysian MotoGP practice

Dani Pedrosa set the pace in both of Friday's free practice sessions ahead of this weekend's Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang. The Repsol Honda rider lapped the 5.543km track in a time of two minutes 01.250 seconds to go 0.820 secs faster than team-mate Casey Stoner, who sealed his second world title in Australia last weekend. Stoner was in fact the only rider to get within a second of Pedrosa's best, with Andrea Dovizioso completing a clean sweep for the factory Honda team by going third fastest overall. Pedrosa, who finished fourth in Phillip Island last weekend and stands fourth in the world championship standings, was 0.641 seconds faster than Stoner in the morning session. He then increased his advantage in the afternoon. Ben Spies, who missed last Sunday's race after a crash in qualifying, rode to ninth for the factory Yamaha team while seven-times world champion Valentino Rossi was a distant 13th for Ducati a full 2.427s slower than Pedrosa. Tech3's Colin Edwards was the fastest Yamaha rider in sixth place while team-mate Cal Crutchlow was 15th, three places ahead of Katsuyuki Nakasuga, who is replacing Jorge Lorenzo at the factory Yamaha team this weekend after the Spaniard suffered a hand injury in Australia.
