Firman signs up for GT series
Ralph Firman will once again compete in the Japanese Super GT Championship this year.
A1 Team Ireland driver Ralph Firman has re-signed with the Super Aguri Honda Racing Team in this year's Japanese Super GT Championship.Former Formula One star Firman competed in the inaugural Super GT series last year and will again team up with Daisuke Ito.
The 30-year-old, who has managed just a solitary podium in what has proved a frustrating season in the A1 series, expressed his excitement at the opportunity to test himself in the Japanese series once again, although it means a busy schedule as the two championships overlap in the coming weeks.
"I'm delighted to have signed for Team Honda Racing and I'm confident that we will be highly competitive again," Firman explained.
"Last year was the first running of the Super GT series and we developed the Honda NSX-GT considerably through the season.
"We were unfortunate not to win the title, so this year our sights are set firmly on the teams' and drivers' championships.
"I'd like to thank Honda for giving me the opportunity to compete as part of its attack.
"One thing is for sure, and this is that I'll certainly be busy in the coming weeks as I combine completing the two remaining rounds of the A1 Grand Prix series for A1 Team Ireland with the start of the Super GT series."
