Yvan Muller and Augusto Farfus both won races in Valencia to stay first and second in the World Touring Car Championship standings.

Top two both win races in Valencia

Yvan Muller and Augusto Farfus both won races in Valencia on Sunday to stay at the head of the World Touring Car Championship standings. SEAT driver Muller won race one, before Farfus claimed a first success of the year for BMW in race two to close the gap at the top to three points. Defending champion Muller headed a SEAT one-two-three in the first 13-lap race at the 4.005 kilometre Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana, leading home Tiago Monteiro and Gabriele Tarquini. The Frenchman started the race in second on the grid but made light work of pushing ahead of polesitter Tarquini on the opening lap and from then on never looked back to claim a third victory of the campaign, finishing 1.884seconds ahead of Monteiro. Farfus finished in fourth, but then improved from fifth on the grid to claim victory in race two, while team-mate Jorg Muller was second and Tarquini scooped another third-placed finish to sit third in the overall standings. It was a BMW battle in this race as Farfus moved ahead of his team-mate on lap three to finish 0.540secs ahead of the German.

Priaulx happy

Britain's Andy Priaulx, the three-time former champion, enjoyed a fruitful day after a miserable time during qualifying on Saturday. From 14th on the grid for race one, the BMW driver powered his way through the field to finish fifth and followed that up with fourth in race two. The Briton is now fourth in the overall standings, although he trails third-placed Tarquini by 11 points and is 22 adrift of leader Muller. But he was pleased with his efforts in Valencia, saying: "I am relieved to leave Spain with some solid points in the bag which have allowed me to move up two places in the drivers' championship. "It was a tough weekend and I certainly enjoyed some good racing. The track produced some surprises and it was good for BMW to get its first win of the year, although I am disappointed it was not me on the top step of the podium. "Now I am looking forward to the next race in Brno, as I really enjoy that circuit." Fellow Briton Robert Huff is fifth in the standings after enduring a day to forget, finishing 22nd in both races.
