Alex Pagulayan lost out to Jayson Shaw in dramatic circumstances

Alex Pagulayan looked odds on to reach the semi-finals of the World Pool Masters in Gibraltar with just a straightforward nine ball left on the table.
Pagulayan and Scotland's Jayson Shaw enjoyed a nip-and-tuck battle on the baize with the Canadian opening up a 4-1 lead at one point in the contest, until Shaw came battling back to close the gap to 3-4 and then 5-6. After Shaw made it 6-6, the quarter-final went down to a deciding rack.
But Shaw came up dry on his break-off shot, which allowed the dangerous Pagulayan to power through the balls and leave himself what seemed a straightforward shot on the nine, despite the cue ball close to the rail.
In kicked nerves as Pagulayan misjudged his shot to leave the audience in shock and disbelief. Feeling almost embarrassed by the miss, he immediately conceded the match to Shaw, who looked bemused by what had just happened.

Shaw went on to reach the final by easing past Jung Lin Chang 8-3. The Scot was feeling lucky after his quarter-final escape by potting the three ball up the railing and into the top right-hand corner pocket....
Kuwaiti Omar al-Shaheen produced the great escape during his match against Niels Feijen to pot the three ball as 'gruesome turned to glorious'....
