Elite League leaders grab second straight win over Cardiff Devils
Sheffield Steelers made it two wins out of two in their top-of-the-table clashes with Cardiff Devils after a 5-2 home success.
Steelers now have a nine point lead over Cardiff in the Elite League standings, with Devils down to third after the two straight losses.
Cardiff made the perfect start when Stuart MacRae fired them ahead at 2.37 but goals from Robert Dowd and Rob Globke saw Sheffield ahead by the end of the first period.
The lead was increased in the second period as Jeff Legue found the net before Ashley Tait and Dowd again killed the game off in the third. Alex Symonds grabbed a consolation for Devils.
Nottingham Panthers continued their fine run of form with a fifth straight victory after seeing off defending champions
Coventry Blaze 5-1.
The contest was effectively over after the first period as David-Alexandre Beauregard, Jeff Heerema, David Clarke and Stephen Lee made it 4-0 by the break.
Blaze did finally steady the ship and were much improved in the second period, with Luke Fulghum pulling one back at 37.26.
Panthers never looked in danger of losing their lead, however, and Heerema grabbed his second just before the end of the match to complete the scoring.
Belfast win
Belfast Giants moved into second place in the standings after a hard fought 3-1 win against
Dundee Stars.
Giants were well on top in the first period, but after out-shooting their opponents 21 to 5 they had only a solitary Craig Peacock strike to show for their efforts.
Stars looked dangerous despite having less of the play and levelled the scores at 30.35 through a Brent Hughes penalty shot.
However, Belfast took the lead again just over five minutes later as Peacock grabbed his second of the night before the GB international completed his hat-trick in the final minute.
Edinburgh Capitals' awful streak continued as they fell to a 10-2 defeat to
Newcastle Vipers, the Scottish side's 21st loss in a row.
Kyle Sibley, Toms Hartmanis and Mike Prpich gave the Vipers a 3-0 lead before Jeff Hutchins scored twice on his return from injury to pull Capitals back to within a goal.
That was as close as Edinburgh would get, however, as Newcastle scored four more - two from Prpich and one each from Jaro Rzeszutko and Paul Sample - to make it 7-2 by the end of the second period.
Three more followed in the third as Prpich grabbed his fourth of the match before Rzeszutko also scored twice more to grab a hat-trick. Vipers are now five points off Dundee in the race for the final play-off position.
Braehead Clan moved up to fifth place in the table after securing a 3-2 road victory over
Hull Stingrays.
The visitors had goaltender JF Perras to thank for the win after he kept out all 29 attempts on his goal during the first period.
At the other end, Kyle Bruce gave Clan a 1-0 lead at 13.18 before Lee Esder finally beat Perras to level at 25.07. But Dominic Noel then struck as Clan retook the lead.
Jordan Krestanovich extended the advantage to 3-1 and although Kurtis Dulle reduced the deficit to one in the third period, Braehead held on for the win.
