Professional skydiver Luke Aikins attempted the unthinkable on Saturday - diving out of a plane at 25,000ft without a parachute before landing in a safety net just above ground level.
Aikins, a professional skydiver with 18,000 jumps under his belt, reached speeds of 120 mph after leaping from the plane in the stunt broadcast live on television.
He endured forces of nearly 4G as he landed on his back in the 100ft x 100ft safety net positioned in Simi Valley, California.
Aikins, 42, begun the jump flanked by three fellow skydivers who accompanied him until they peeled off to pull their chutes at 5,000ft.
When asked afterwards how he felt, he said: "I'm almost levitating. It's incredible. To think what just happened - to be honest I just can't get it out of my mouth - all these guys, everybody. It is awesome."
Aikins, who made his first tandem jump when he was 12, provides skydiving training to elite forces including the US Navy Seals and also performed stunts in the Iron Man 3 movie.
