Siobhan-Marie O’Connor has been rewarded for her superb 2014 season with a nomination for the Sunday Times and Sky Sports Young Sportswoman of the Year award.
The Sky Academy Sports Scholar has been in incredible form since the turn of the year, picking up countless medals and personal bests. However, the undoubted highlight was a record-equalling six medal haul at the Commonwealth Games during the summer.
The Bath swimmer, 18, picked four silvers and one bronze medal to go with the 200m individual medley gold that she won in a Games and British record time.
Despite her achievements in Glasgow, O’Connor seemed almost surprised by the nomination as she expressed her thanks.
Honoured
“I’m really happy to have been nominated for the Sky and Sunday Times Young Sports Personality of the Year award. It has been such a great year for me and I feel very honoured to have my achievements recognised. Thank you,” she said.

The award is currently held by track cyclist Becky James with other previous winners of the award including tennis player Laura Robson, O’Connor’s GB team-mate Fran Halsall and a fellow Sky Academy Sports Scholar Lucy Garner. The cyclist was honoured in 2011 have won her first World Junior Road Race title.
