Sky Sports presenters make shortlist for NFL MVP award
Sky Sports' NFL presenters Kevin Cadle and Nick Halling have named their shortlist of five players from which fans can vote for their MVP at the NFLUK Awards to be held on Super Bowl Sunday on February 7. Sky Sports, the home of NFL in the UK, is sponsoring the NFL MVP category in the newly-announced NFLUK Awards, with the winner being announced as part of the awards ceremony at Super Bash on February 6 at the IndigO2. "The MVP award will be the centre-piece of the evening so it is appropriate that Sky Sports, which has been the home of the NFL in the UK for so many years, is teaming up with us on this prize." Our men Cadle and Halling have come up with five men who they think have made the biggest impact on the NFL this season, you can have your say via the feedback form below and watch out for details on how to vote. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady leads the nominations, with fellow Pro Bowl triggerman Michael Vick getting the nod after his resurgence with Philadelphia. Running back Arian Foster exploded for Houston as did Michael Turner for Atlanta, while Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu completes the line-up as the only defensive player on the list.Tom Brady (QB)
Brady has been right back to his very best for New England this season as he was selected to the Pro Bowl as the AFC's best passer, and possibly the best quarterback in the NFL.
His consistency has been amazing, as he ended the regular season with a remarkable run of 335 consecutive passes without being intercepted and has been picked off only four times in 492 attempts all season.
Regular season marks of 3,900 yards, 36 touchdowns and a 111 rating illustrate what a star 'Tom Terrific' is, as he also overcame the loss of Randy Moss by supplying rookie receivers and tight ends with TDs galore.
Michael Vick (QB)
Vick started the season as Kevin Kolb's back-up but showed in the very first game he deserved to start as he almost led a comeback against Green Bay with his threat both through the air and on the ground.
Vick has big-play ability with his arm and his legs, and with a plethora of talented receivers at Philadelphia he has thrived this season with 3,018 yards and 21 TDs through the air and 676 yards and nine scores rushing.
The premier dual-threat quarterback has made the Pro Bowl as he continues his rehabilitation following a prison sentence for dogfighting convictions.
Arian Foster (RB)
Foster came from relative obscurity to explode onto the NFL scene and become the league's rushing champion with some dazzling displays for the Houston Texans.
After starting just once last season, Foster started against Indianapolis on the opening day and shredded the Colts to the tune of 231 yards and three TDs, breaking Houston's single-game record.
The second-year back kept up the pace to terrify NFL defences for 1,616 yards and 16 touchdowns, while proving to be a fine catcher out of the backfield with 604 receiving yards and two TDs.
Michael Turner (RB)
After a downturn in production last season, Atlanta's barrel-chested running back Turner was back to his barnstorming best as his pounding runs helped the Falcons to the NFC's best record.
A total of 12 touchdowns and 1,371 yards rushing did not match his breakout year of 2008, but it gave opposition defences enough to think about and allowed Matt Ryan room to manoeuvre.
Turner has thrived especially at home at the Georgia Dome, which could come in handy with Atlanta the number one seed in the play-offs.
Troy Polamalu (S)
The unmistakable Pittsburgh safety has shown his value to the team this season as the Steelers defence thrived after stuttering in his absence through injury last season.
Polamalu has 49 tackles, one sack, seven interceptions and a touchdown, but his impact cannot be measured in stats alone, as he always seems to make the game-changing play.
So quick, so strong and with great hands, Polamalu seems all over the field at times, and is one of those big-play defenders that has opposition quarterbacks throwing anywhere but in his direction.
