Yorkshire Jets plan to use their Superleague opener next Friday as a showcase of netball.
The new season opens in Sheffield with the Jets hosting Loughborough Lightning at the English Institute of Sport.
Head coach Anna Carter will be hoping Jets’ impressive pre-season form that saw them register three wins from four games can be replicated when Lightning visit.
“We’re particularly pleased to be launching our new Superleague campaign in South Yorkshire and look forward to giving the crowd at EIS Sheffield something to cheer about as we get our season underway,” said Carter.
New captain Lauren Potter added: “Our supporters are always really important and encourage us to play the best we can so I’m delighted we get to start our season in my home city. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces in the crowd and I’m sure it’ll help inspire me and all the team.”
Before Jets v Lightning in the Superleague, netball of the next generation will be showcased in a four-school invitational tournament as Barnsley’s Darton College, Sheffield High School, Wickersley School and Doncaster’s Hill House School take to the court.
Jets Franchise Manager Jane Moulson said: “This is an exciting time for both the Yorkshire Jets and netball in general. In the past 12 months we’ve seen netball in sharp focus - with the Commonwealth Games, England’s games getting more coverage than ever and more matches live on Sky Sports.”
