Scottish side still struggling to find the net

Hertfordshire Mavericks moved four points clear at the top of the FIAT Netball Superleague with a 47-24 win at Glasgow Wildcats. The table-toppers used the match against the league's bottom side to rotate their squad. Karen Atkinson joined Maggie Jackson on the coaches bench, while Louisa Brownfield, Camilla Buchanan and Georgia Schmidt each played half of the match, but the visitors were still strong enough to claim their seventh win from eight matches this season. While the possession was relatively evenly shared, where it counted in the shooting circle it was all Mavericks, as they converted 84 per cent of their 56 attempts. Wildcats are still winless after seven games and appear to be struggling to boost the number of balls making it to their shooters, who are also not finding the net often enough to keep their team in matches. For three-quarters of the game Glasgow were competing, but their paltry goal tally tells its own story. It was only in the final quarter that Mavericks really found their stride, winning the 15 minutes 17-4 and that was good enough for the head coach: "The last quarter was the way we wanted to play," said Maggie Jackson. "This was an error-strewn game but there was good work by our defenders and constant turnovers, which we need to capitalise on." And in relation to the changes she added: "We're always looking for different leaders within the team, and today was an opportunity for those to step up within each of the units." Denise Holland, head coach of the Glasgow Wildcats added: "It was a solid performance from the whole team defensively, against a strong Mavericks side. We were challenged by the Hertfordshire Mavericks defence, however you can see the improvement from our young talent."
