Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke has died from her injuries suffered in a halfpipe training incident last week, the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association have confirmed. The 29-year-old, a four-time Winter X Games gold medalist, died at Salt Lake City hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a training session on January 10 in Park City, Utah. A statement on the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association's official facebook page read: "The Canadian Freestyle Ski association sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Sarah Burke, who passed away today in a Salt Lake City hospital." Her publicist Nicole Wool released a statement on behalf of the family saying that tests revealed she suffered "irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest." "The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the international outpouring of support they have received from all the people Sarah touched," the statement read.
