American Lindsey Vonn claimed her 50th World Cup victory on the demanding Kandahar course at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Saturday.
The 27-year-old Olympic champion recovered after a slow start and was the fastest down the course in a time of 1min 44.86sec, with Switzerland's Nadja Kamer second at 0.41sec and Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather claiming third at 0.79sec.
With her 25th win in the discipline, Vonn also became the second most successful downhill specialist behind Austrian Anne-Marie Moser-Proell, who won 62 races overall, 36 of them downhills.
Vonn will again be the favourite in Sunday's Super-G on the same Kandahar course, when she will be bidding to clinch her 10th victory of the season.
In Chamonix, Canadian Jan Hudec claimed his first downhill victory for more than four injury-hit years.
The Canadian, who has been blighted by knee trouble, was trailing Romed Baumann until he reached the midsection and then started shaving huge chunks off the Austrian's time, eventually smashing it by 0.53sec.
Erik Guay made it a great day for Canada by finishing third, albeit 0.63sec behind his fellow countryman.
