The Detroit Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak in the American League by beating the New York Yankees 7-5. Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs, while Drew Smyly pitched into the seventh inning for his first MLB win as the Tigers put their recent struggles behind them. Colby Lewis allowed one run in six innings and Josh Hamilton had a two-run single as the Texas Rangers snapped the Tampa Bay Rays' six-game winning streak with a 7-2 victory. Jon Lester outduelled Jake Peavy as the Boston Red Sox scored a sixth straight victory, 1-0 over the Chicago White Sox, while Dan Haren pitched eight strong innings as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Cleveland Indians 2-1. Chris Davis had four RBIs, and Adam Jones and Robert Andino each had three hits as the Baltimore Orioles saw off the Oakland Athletics 10-1. Edwin Encarnacion hit a grand slam as the Toronto Blue Jays ended a four-game losing run with a 7-0 shut-out of the Seattle Mariners. Kansas City's game against Minnesota was postponed because of rain. In the National League, Yadier Molina tied his career high by going four-for-four with a two-run homer as the St Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3. Jay Bruce homered for the third consecutive game and drove in four runs as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Houston Astros 6-0. Carlos Ruiz homered and drove in three runs as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2, while the Miami Marlins won 3-2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Hanley Ramirez's walk-off single in the ninth. Matt Kemp homered leading off the 10th inning, spoiling Bryce Harper's major league debut and lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals. Eric Bedard struck out nine over five innings and was on the winning side for the first time this season as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2. Dillon Gee pitched seven innings and threw a career-high 116 pitches as the New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 7-5, while the San Francisco Giants edged out the San Diego Padres 2-1.
