Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in New York Mets history to lead his side to an 8-0 win over the St Louis Cardinals.
Santana walked five while throwing 134 pitches as the Mets fans finally had a 'no-no' to cheer in the franchise's 51st year.
Lucas Duda supported Santana with a three-run homer as he drove in four, while Kirk Nieuwenhuis scored three times on three hits.
Santana told the official Major League Baseball website: "I'm in this situation in the greatest city in baseball. I'm very happy, and I'm happy for [the fans], finally: the first one."
David Price blanked the Baltimore Orioles for 7.33 innings as the Tampa Bay Rays moved to the top of the American League East with a 5-0 win.
Hideki Matsui homered for the Rays, who got all five of their runs in the first inning.
Clay Buchholz produced his best start of the season, hurling eight frames of two-run ball as the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2.
Buchholz was backed by David Ortiz, who homered and drove in two, and Daniel Nava, who scored three times on four hits.
Curtis Granderson smashed a second-inning grand slam to lead the New York Yankees to a 9-4 win over the Detroit Tigers.
CC Sabathia surrendered three runs in seven innings for his seventh win of the season.
