With an emphasis on trying out new tactics in the first two World Cup meets this season, Christie will have been pleased to reach the final and certainly showed enough to suggest there is plenty more to come.

The result came just 24 hours after the precarious nature of short track speed skating was made very apparent in the 1500m semi-final.

With just a lap to go, Christie fell meaning a place in the final slipped away.

A third-place finish in her 1000m semi-final had been enough to see the 23-year-old Scot through to the final and Performance Director Stuart Horsepool pleased with Christie's showing.

"Elise was OK after her fall in the 1500 and she went on to skate very well through her qualifying rounds to make the final of the 1000m," he said.

"The three Korean's did skate as a unit which made it incredibly difficult for her and Jorien Ter Mors of the Netherlands to get past, so with that in mind fifth place was a good result."

The Sky Sports Scholar took to Twitter after the 1000m and summed up an eventful two weeks.

"Two penalties, a fall in the 1500 semi at 1 to go and skating into the blocks in the 1000m final. That's short track!" she wrote.

That the last two weeks are seen as anything less than a resounding success following three top eight finishes over two distances and a British record time with the 3000m relay team only goes to show how far Christie has come.

The World Cup now takes a break until November with the next two events also acting as Winter Olympic qualifiers.

With a bit of the luck she has been missing so far, Christie will be hopeful of achieving the results to match her positive displays.
