The Rock and Triple H tease a WrestleMania showdown

There was plenty of nostalgia on Smackdown’s 15th anniversary celebration on Friday night.

John Laurinaitis and Theodore Long joined fellow former blue brand general manager, Stephanie McMahon, in the ring to kick off the show, with both men proposing potential matches.

WWE: Late Night - Smackdown

McMahon was nonplussed by many of the suggestions but her interest was piqued by Long’s idea of a 15-Superstar tag-team encounter and the multi-man melee was swiftly made official.

“Team Teddy” was represented by Sheamus, Jack Swagger, Mark Henry, Jimmy and Jey Uso, Los Matadores and El Torito, while Damien Mizdow, Cesaro, Goldust, Stardust, Heath Slater, Titus O’Neil and Mini-Gator turned out for “Team Johnny”.

The bout descended into chaos but Long’s squad eventually prevailed when Sheamus Brogue Kicked Mizdow and Jey Uso capitalised by splashing and pinning the Miz’s stunt double.

Footage was also shown of Triple H and The Rock’s verbal confrontation from Raw, which saw the WWE legends reminisce on their heated battles of yesteryear and ponder what would happen if they went at it one more time at the grandest stage of all, WrestleMania.

Challenge

The Rock annoyed Rusev on Monday night by interrupting the Super Athlete, uttering some of his iconic catchphrases and punching the Bulgarian Brute out of the ring.

The Rock made a surprise return to WWE Raw on Monday night to confront Rusev and Lana.

Rusev was unsurprisingly angry on Friday, then, but managed to keep his cool for long enough to submit Dolph Ziggler to the Accolade and challenge Big Show to a contest on Raw.

Elsewhere, Kane made light work of Adam Rose before running through the party-lover’s Exotic Express and chasing away his Bunny, while AJ Lee overcame Alicia Fox.

Seth Rollins, meanwhile, downed Kofi Kingston with a Curb Stomp, but his potential opponents at the impending Hell in a Cell pay-per-view came to blows once again.

Dean Ambrose and John Cena will compete in a Contract on a Pole match in Dallas, with the man who claims that vital piece of paper earning a ruckus with Rollins inside the Cell itself later in the night.

The Lunatic Fringe and The Cenation Leader teamed up to good effect on Smackdown to attack The Miz on a raucous edition of MizTv, but Ambrose was then swiftly floored by an Attitude Adjustment from Cena.
