Justin Gabriel has been released from his WWE contract, the company announced on Sunday.

The South African wrestler won the WWE Tag Team Titles three times with former Nexus and Corre team-mate Heath Slater between 2010 and 2011 but has now exited WWE after seven years.

Gabriel began his tenure in WWE’s then developmental territory Florid Championship Wrestling in 2008, becoming FCW Heavyweight Champion by beating Slater in a two-out-of-three falls match in 2009.

However, the Cape Town’s greatest success came when he starred on the first season of WWE NXT and then went on to be part of the much-vaunted Nexus stable, alongside the likes of Bad News Barrett and Daniel Bryan, that main evented SummerSlam in 2010.

Gabriel then transitioned into the Barrett-led faction, The Corre, but latterly tag teamed with Tyson Kidd before mainly exercising his skills in the reformed NXT at Full Sail University in Orlando.

“WWE wishes Justin Gabriel the best in all of his future endeavours,” said a statement on WWE.com.
