Bas Savage showed Soccer AM his legendary dance moves and explained how he moonwalks wearing boots!
Savage moonwalks in Soccer AM studios
There's nothing we like better on
Soccer AM than someone who knows how to cut some shapes on the dance floor.
The annual Dance Off between all crew members is one of the highlights of the season, while over the years we've watched the likes of the 'Geordie Dancer' and the 'Mackem Mover' do their stuff in the studio.
However, they all pale in comparison to the sweet, sweet moves of the one and only Bas Savage!
The Tranmere striker's trademark moonwalk celebration has been entertaining us since he made his professional debut for Reading in 2002, and on Saturday he popped by the studio to show, as well as, tell us how it's done!
"Sometimes it does depend on the surface," he told Helen and Max. "If it's a dry pitch I could trip up and fall flat on my face."
"I can suss it straight away if it's a moonwalking pitch or not. While everyone else is in the dressing room doing their strapping's and stuff I'm usually popping!"
Cult status
Savage's eccentric style has made him a fans favourite wherever he has played, however it was at Brighton where his new found cult status became apparent.
A regular feature on
Soccer AM called 'I wanna be like Bas Savage' was only the start, and he admitted he was happy about the attention he received from the show.
"I'm grateful to
Soccer AM for putting it out there, but I was doing it in my non-league days as well," he said. "I do it all the time. I just love it."
"When I was at Brighton the manager Dean Wilkins wanted to stop me from doing it, so every time I scored the lads would mob me, but I'd just do it afterwards."
Battle
According to the 28-year-old, he isn't the only footballer with moves that would put the rest of us to shame, however.
"There's Jordan Stewart at Sheffield United too," he revealed. "He thinks he can take me. He's really good, but I'm better!
"I'm good friends with him and we usually have a battle when we're out at clubs.
"There's (Adebayo) Akinfenwa at Northampton too. He's a big lad, but he can move! And Jamie Cureton is probably the best break dancer out of all of us. He can do the cartwheel!"
