Daniel Mays says he'll one day step in and save Leyton Orient, but only once he's 'cracked Hollywood'!
I'll 'save' O's says British actor
It's every fans dream to one day own the football club they have dearest to their heart, and Daniel Mays is no different.
The British actor, who has starred in films such as The Firm and The Bank Job, says he'd like to one day take over his beloved Leyton Orient, but only once he's a big Hollywood star!
The League One side currently sit just four places above the relegation zone, while chairman Barry Hearn has revealed it may be time for someone else to take the reigns from him.
Mays believes the club will avoid the drop this season, but admitted a new chairman willing to pump money into the club could be the answer... even if it's not him!
"We're in a bit of trouble I think, but we've just got to string a few wins together, he told
Soccer AM. "I think we'll be safe but it is a bit precarious at the moment."
"Life without Barry Hearn might be worse for them. He's kept the whole thing afloat, and apparently it's debt free and everything else.
"But there is an argument that it would be better to have a different chairman who's going to put a bit more money into it really. It's a question of how ambitious he really is.
"It's a tricky one, and I don't really know what the answer is. Part of me hopes he stays really.
"I've got to crack Hollywood and then I'll step in and save the day, that's my goal in life, that's it!"
Ashes
A Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts graduate, Mays is set to star in the new series of the BBC sci-fi drama, Ashes to Ashes, and he told Helen and Max what to expect.
"It's mainly about Keeley Hawe's character, Alex Drake. It's a bit confusing but she's basically got shot in the present day and when she wakes up we're in 1983.
"So it's all about whether or not she's in a coma and obviously it's a follow-on from Life on Mars which stars John Simm and is set in the '70s.
"It's just this fantastic journey throughout this series to see what all these unanswered questions are about. It's the final series, everything is going to be put to bed and it really does go out on a high."
"Hopefully the fans of the show really go with it. The ending is really ambitious and incredibly bold. It's different and it's going to push the boundaries of what people expect this show to be."
