Comedian Tim Vine dropped by the Soccer AM studios on Saturday and gave us a preview of his show!

The pun machine

Comedian Tim Vine joined Soccer AM on Saturday to talk about his new DVD and England's Euro 2012 qualifier... at least that was the plan! Known for his quick-fire one liners, Vine had everyone in the studio in hysterics as he cracked joke after joke, while Helen and Max did their best to conduct an interview. Not that we should be in the least bit surprised. After all the Usain Bolt of comedy entered the record books in 2004 for telling 499 jokes in an hour, smashing the previous record of 362, before eventually being overhauled by Australian comedian Anthony Lehmann a year later. And he revealed just how close he came to reaching 500: "I was half way through a joke so I nearly (got to 500). But the joke I nearly did was; 'I said to this Scotsman did you have spots when you were a teenager and he said 'acne'! That would have got me to 500." Vine's style has been compared to Tommy Cooper, while the late Bob Monkhouse once described the 43-year-old as "a very funny man indeed" and someone who had "taken the trick of word play and extended it to lengths no-one has ever dared before."

Act

His latest live DVD is appropriately named 'Punslinger' and he revealed what his act involved. "I come on and do about seven cowboy jokes at the beginning," he said. "In fact I say 'I've got seven cowboy jokes... they're magnificent!' and then I just carry on doing the rest of the act dressed as a cowboy for no reason." Needless to say but there wasn't much time for a serious chat , however the England fan admitted he was disappointed with the start the national side had made to their Euro 2012 qualifiers. The 43-year-old was at Wembley on Tuesday night to see Fabio Capello's men draw against Montenegro and he gave his verdict on the team. "Alan Hansen once said that Wayne Rooney is second to none, so I don't know why England don't start playing this 'nun' if she's that good! "What was disappointing about it was that it wasn't all that surprising. We are in a bit of trouble at the moment. "I honestly think we need someone like (Paul) Gascoigne, who is my favourite footballer of all time. Imagine Gazza on that pitch, we need someone like that. "I think they should tell kids to not pass the ball until they're 16! I think there should be a new rule in school, just try and dribble around everyone."
